We are inviting expressions of interest from professional graduates and practitioners working with young people to take part in an exciting new initiative to establish low intensity practitioners within mental health services for children and young people. The posts will be supported by CAMHS whilst undertaking specific training at the University of Derby.

The programme is a response to the target for offering evidence based interventions to 70,000 more children and young people annually by 2020, by training 1700 new staff in evidence based treatments, outlined in Implementing the Five Year Forward View for Mental Health (2016).  The target is restated in the NHS Operational Planning Guidance 2017-19.

You are invited to apply for these low intensity practitioners training posts at band 4 (NHS Agenda for Change Banding) funded by HEE for 1 year.

These posts will be full time training positions and create a new cadre of psychological practitioners capable of delivering high-quality, outcome-based, evidence-based interventions for mild to moderate difficulties to children, young people and their families. The posts will occupy distinct roles, representing new capacity to reach children and young people not currently seen by CAMHS, for whom lower intensity intervention would be appropriate. They will complement, not replace, the work of existing CAMHS practitioners by building better links with communities and offering rapid access to low intensity interventions.

The CYP low intensity practitioners will work under close supervision of CAMHS, to offer low-level interventions such as:

  1. behavioural activation for depression.
  2. behavioural treatment for anxiety and guided parent-led self-help;
  3. brief parent support for behavioural/regulatory problems in young children;

Low intensity Practitioners will be required to be available to start in this post in May 2018.  intensity practitioners will undertake a certificate level training (graduate or postgraduate, depending on entry qualifications) for 1 year, beginning in May 2018.

Please note that this job advert may close early if there are a large number of applicants.
